Scan your space right the first time
Follow these steps to capture a clean room scan, export it properly, and upload it for review.
You do not need to pay to view this guide.
Download Polycam + Setup
Download Polycam on your phone and make sure your device is ready before scanning.
Only on LiDAR-enabled iPhone Pro / Pro Max devices
How to Scan (Tour vs Home)
Learn the right way to move through the room so your scan is complete and usable.
How to Export (GLTF)
Export your finished scan in the correct format and upload it to us.
Before you start
Use a LiDAR-enabled device. Polycam Space Mode is built for LiDAR-capable iPhones/iPads. Compatible devices include iPhone Pro / Pro Max models and recent iPad Pro models.
Charge your phone first. Polycam recommends starting at roughly 80% battery for larger scans.
Turn on lights and avoid dark corners. Even lighting improves scan quality.
Open doors before scanning. This helps avoid capture issues and gives cleaner room geometry.
Move objects off the floor when you can. Clear paths and open corners help the app detect walls and floorplans better.
Avoid mirrors and large reflective glass when possible. Reflective surfaces can interfere with capture.
How to scan your room
Start in a corner
Stand in a corner and aim toward the opposite corner near the floor when starting. This improves tracking stability.
Walk slowly
Move at a steady walking pace, roughly 2 feet per second. Moving too fast can cause tracking loss and LiDAR drift.
Capture floor to ceiling
Scan each wall from floor to ceiling and include corners, doors, windows, and permanent room features.
Cover the full room
Walk the full room and make sure no obvious areas are missed. If the app loses tracking, stop and slowly pan until it relocates.
Finish only when complete
Do not stop early. Finish only when the room is fully covered. Check that no unscanned areas remain before processing.
Furniture guidance
Permanent features should stay. Keep walls, windows, doors, closets, radiators, built-ins, counters, and other fixed architecture in the scan.
Still, cleaner is better. If the room is cluttered, move lightweight objects out of walkways and away from corners when possible. We can remove non-permanent furniture manually if needed.
Export and Upload Steps
You're almost done. Export your scan in the right format, then upload it so we can review it.

Recommended processing settings
| Setting | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Scan mode | Use Space Mode. If available, keep floorplan enabled. Space Mode generates a 3D mesh plus floorplan outputs from one scan. |
| Processing type | Use Space processing. This mode is designed for interiors and uses wall-straightening / room-oriented processing. |
| Large spaces | For larger multi-room captures, Cloud processing may help with higher resolution and better results. |
Export checklist
Open the processed scan in Polycam
Tap Export
Choose GLB / glTF as the format
Use the standard model export — not a screenshot or floorplan-only download
Export the full room model
Save the file with a simple name like: firstname-school-room.glb
Make sure processing is complete before exporting.
Do not close the app during processing.
Keep a network connection on if using cloud processing.
Common mistakes
Moving too fast
Walk slower — roughly 2 feet per second
Missing corners or ceiling edges
Scan floor to ceiling and complete each wall
Dark room
Turn on all lights or use a flashlight
Mirrors / glass causing weird geometry
Avoid or reduce reflective surfaces
Tracking lost
Stop moving and slowly pan until the app recovers
Wrong file type
Upload GLB / glTF only
Scan looks cluttered
Okay for now if fixed room structure is visible — we can remove non-permanent furniture manually
